Good Horror games for PC?
« on: April 25, 2013, 01:19:25 PM »
Haven't really played the genre that much. Have only played two of the
Silent Hill games and the low lighting in Bioshock freaked me out a
little bit at certain parts lol

Gonna pick up Amnesia while its on sale. Heard really good things about this one

Not out yet but Daylight looks interesting, randomly generated areas for different experiences each playthrough

The Evil Within by Bethesda is also on my radar

Any other ones that are available now or coming soon?

If you\'re getting amnesia.I might also suggest penumbra. It\'s like amnesia\'s predecessor. Another good one I\'d suggest would be the cat lady. It\'s less shock horror than amnesia, but it\'s got some psychological horror in it. It also gives some pretty good insight on depression.

Kraven Manor is our new Indie Game of the Week and looks pretty awesome scary. Nicholas said it's pretty short but definitely looks worth checking out.

I've seen the gameplay of kraven Manor. It looks pretty alright, they're kinda right with the briefness and lack of challenge in the puzzles. What I wish they'd let you do is have a certain target in the overmap that you can reach by chaining together multiple rooms in a way. If anything, I liked how the mannequins have a weeping-angel-ish feel to them with how they mostly move when offscreen. For an indie game, I guess it's pretty good. Still not amnesia-tier if you ask me, but it's got plenty potential.

Have you ever played F.E.A.R.? It is dated but it's still really freakin good. I played it just several months ago and was still impressed. The music is what really sets the tone, and it is set up so perfectly in every new scene. It goes on sale often enough for $2.50 if you don't want to pay more. Definitely pick it up if you haven't played it.

It's more action style but it is definitely a trip, and it should offer you up lots of shock value.

There's also a new indie game coming out called Dreadout. There's a demo for it on Steam, check it out.

You should give SCP Containment Breach a try. The graphics may be dated, but its a fun game (though buggy). Not bad for being free and all

Outlast is by far the most challenging PC horror game I've tried. You can't fight enemies back. All you do is run and hide, and that makes it really horrifying.
