I'm just curious to hear a few opinions about this topic.
Since the day I built my first computer and played my first match of Halo I never wanted to use a controller ever again. I still feel that way about most FPS games, the precision in a mouse is just greater than any controller.
Though in the past few days I've been playing games that are meant for controllers IE: Super Meat Boy, and Psychonauts (the mouse controls are just awful)

My question to everyone is if there is a certain type of game you all play with a control because it feels better than a mouse and keyboard.
And to go even further if anyone uses a steering wheel for racing games, does it give you an edge over other players, or does it just make a player more immersed in his game?

This is a pretty interesting question actually, so here are my preferences
    RPG - controller
    RTS - PC
FPS - depends, I generally prefer console now because its slower and easier to move around (bf3).  However fast paced games (tf2) are def better on PC
MMO - PC (this extends to other games that control like an mmo, such as dragon age)
    Sports - controller
    driving - wheel*

did i miss any major game styles?

*to elaborate on my experience with my racing wheel...
Mine is USB so I've used to with console and PC.  On console I would argue that its actually harder to play with a wheel.  It doesn't allow you to react as quickly, however it is way more fun.  I generally ended up playing through forza 90% of the time with a wheel.  On PC however the wheel is just better.  Keys are horrible to use for driving games, and the wheel feels better and performs better.  I am a big advocate of a racing wheel if you are into that kind of game.  My brother has a very nice one too, and you get what you pay for... his and mine are like bugatti and smart

The peeps over at Simraceway just sent us over their S1 steering wheel, guess that means we gotta download the game and play it now!

I agree with lucig3n on pretty much all of the categories.  You've got it nailed!

I like the 360 controller for shooter games. It's just got a more natural feel to it.

    Hi everyone!

I always prefer using a controller for Sports and Third Person Shooters.

It's crazy how much it differs sometimes. For Counter-Strike style games I could never use a controller, yet at the same time I can't play Halo on a computer, only on xbox. For fighting games I actually prefer an arcade joystick over anything. Joysticks are an expensive attachment so I don't have one, and I'll say this: playing arcade fighters on xbox is horrible compared to playing them on playstation. The playstation d-pad is separated so it's easier individually hit them whereas on the xbox the d-pad is on one solid axis.

I have a friend who enjoys playing Final Fantasy XI with a playstation controller, even though 99% of the player I met on the game thinks he's crazy, and I agree. Sometimes people just like what they first learn because they are proficient with it or are just too lazy to want to learn a new way. I've suffered both.

The games I prefer a controller in are games without mouse support. If I get a game like Bully or Mercenaries 2 where it feels like you have an aimbot or you're moving your mouse like it's an analog stick; it will need a controller.

Racing games more likely require a wheel. Even if it's arcade and not a sim; I would rather have a wheel. Unfortunately I do not own any wheels so I don't play many racing games.

Fighting games required a controller 100% of the time. FPS games are 100% mouse. TPS varies depending on if any auto aim comes with the game. RTS games are always mouse.
