Just to make sure you guys are all aware, this weekend is MLG Dallas
720p free streams for SC2 HOTS, LoL, and COD BL2.

This is more interesting than most because this is the first major tournament now that Heart of the Swarm (HOTS) has come out which will hopefully result in some upsets and excitement.  Also a lot of the strategies aren't really well established yet, so it should be far more dynamic than the late WoL games.

Another interesting fact for those of you who don't pay attention to MLG stuff too much is the fact that Halo 4 is out of the rotation.  As far as I know MLG hasn't offered an explanation for why, but I'm guessing its because Halo4 has continued down the Halo Reach path of being as unfriendly to competitive gaming as possible.  This isn't the place for a rant on that here, but if you think about how different halo 3 was from halo 4 (weapon locations, killstreaks, loadouts, armor abilities, etc) its not terribly difficult to see why MLG has dropped it.  As a halo fan though its disappointing to only see COD there but meh :/

I loved Halo. What the hell happened?
I would watch MLG more if they had halo again. I used to watch the Top10 MLG plays of the month with Chris Pucket when they had halo. So many head lucky headshots!

Well this is what MLG said

If I had to guess, I think there are two big reasons.  The first thing is the rise of LoL.  It has taken off in serious fashion and because the support has been so big for it (similar to SC2 at this point, even surpassing at some events) they kind of had to "make room" for them by dropping something else.  In the end MLG is concerned about making money, and if a game is coming up huge, they are certainly going to support that instead of...
Second thing is halo has become just less friendly for the professional gamer.  I'm not a big Puckett fan, but I started paying attention to pro halo at halo 3.  Remembering back then, the focuses was on map control, to grab power weapons when they time in, and being able to maintain your BR ammo.  All of that is gone now, which makes things less interesting.  Instead of compromising cover and power weapon access you can just go to the highground now and dominate.  Reach really messed things up making it so difficult to kill players quickly, and as interest dwindled from reach, 4 wasn't good enough to bring everyone back, and so out of a comparative lack of interest, halo is no longer part of MLG (atleast the live events).

Pretty much all of that is my opinion, but given what I know, it makes unfortunate sense

I remember those videos. Pucket was annoying though.

Man you are so right. I would totally play halo 4 anytime some asked me, but its just not the same. Making it so easy to obtain power weapons is ridiculous now. Everytime I think I am about to go on a run, someone comes flying around the corner with a saw, just after I killed them. It's as if Halo 4 wants to support revenge, and make newer players who play other FPS just as good as long time Halo fans, which sucks. I'm all about making the game fair, but some people who used to dominate every round of play are now finding themselves balancing with average players.

@flusken - yup, I would say halo has really done its best to be more forgiving to worse players and make it harder to really be good.  I know I've gotten tired of people having snipers, rockets, saws, etc all over the damn place.  Its annoying, its too easy, and if you abuse it, it gets stupid.  If you hang back, get your drops and grab snipes as much as possible, its so easy to go +10 or more but its not really a good display of skill, its just playing the system.

Back to the original topic, the MLG SC2 Grand final is on RIGHT NOW a majorleaguegaming.com but hoooly shit this tournament has been unbelievable.  I highly suggest watching a BUNCH of the sc2 replays if you have even the slightest interest in it.  I'm going to give you the link and some suggestions if you are interested.

Finals - Life vs Flash, nearly all the games have been really fun so far.  Its game 6 right now so I can't speak for the last 1(potentially 2) games but its been such a great final
Semifinals - Flash v Innovation had some EPIC drop games, particularly the first 2 or 3 games were incredible
Quarters - for more drop madness Innovation v Rain was a great example of what terran can do
Quarters - flash parting was an excellent example of PvT.  I'm kind of a huge fan of PartinG which made this more fun
Round 2 - Flash v Ret this game was really late at night and while not the most competitive, it was a lot of fun with exhaustion and crowd excitement for the last foreigner
Round 2 - Leenock Innovation was a BRUTAL example again of innovation dropping the shit out of zerggy buddies.  So crazy esp when leenock is usually the one out-multipronging the enemy
Round 1 - Goswser v Bomber game either 2 or 3 was a ridiculous like 90 minute game where the entire map got mined out.  Full of some ridiculous hunter seeker bombs, nukes, drops, OMG

In short, basically round 1 wasn't that great.  Everything after was AWESOME, some very interesting play since people had about 1 week to practice the final game before this tournament.  Best SC2 Championship I've ever seen.  This was even better than the one I actually went to, that's how good the games were.
