Does anyone use N4G? I've never actually submitted articles on it until tonight, but it gets talked about a lot - is it really as viable a resource as some seem to think?

Yeah I have never submitted anything, but I use it all the time. I don't know how or where they get their stuff, but I've been using it since early 2011 and so far everything I've ever taken from it has been true or in the ballpark. Stuff gets updated allll the time, too.

It's good for up to date news as pr0ph3cyx said.

What I don't like about N4G is that its comments section is heavily infested with console-wars and biased fanboyism material most of the time. At least that's what I have noticed from my experience with the site. Also, many news/opinion articles put up there with misleading titles. It seems that many people who open new gaming blogs use N4G as a mean to "bait" others into giving them hits for such new blogs.

I use N4G for MMO Attack articles.

What you do is submit whatever you want, like articles or news or opinion pieces or whatever.  You have to input a lot of info like a description and photos and references, blah blah blah.  Then it goes to a 'vote' type system in the community, if it receives enough approvals then it goes through to the main site.  I'm not sure exactly how the temperature ratings are calculated, but obviously the hotter the article the better chance it's on the front page.

We get a decent amount of traffic if an article gets past approval.
