Inspired by this article that Ryan S. wrote: http://mmoattack.com/mmorpg-news/york-removes-sex-offenders-xbox-live/

I have some strong and potentially controversial opinions on this subject.

Unfortunately I don't know any of the statistics regarding breakdown of registered sex offenders by the crime of which they were convicted, but what I do know is that it's disturbingly easy to labeled as a sex offender. You're an 18-year-old kid with a 17-year-old girlfriend whose mom doesn't like you? She can technically press charges and call statutory rape, depending on the age of consent for your state. Boom, you're a sex offender. This shit follows you around for the rest. of. your. life. This has happened to people.

Further, even for individuals who legitimately did commit a sex offense, I'm really not sure what banning them from playing video games online is supposed to accomplish.

My god High School kids cant date or go out with each other even if there a year a part. I can tell a lot of kids are gonna rebel on that.

As for the pedo bears banning from XBL and Facebook will just make them go back to the streets and even kidnap or worse.

I don't agree with it at all. Like you say, it is way to easy to be labeled as one. A friend of my cousin had this happen to him. It's been quite a few years now, however his mother ran a day care from their home. He would be hardly home because of that, and if he was home he would be online playing games with my cousin. Fast forward, some kids mom ended up saying he touched her daughter or son or something wrong, and needless to say there was a long court ordeal, cousin even testified it's something that this person would never do - he's basically grew up with the guy. I don't really remember what exactly happened in the end, but just an example of how easy it is.

I agree with Jess 100% and what you all have said. I think it will be all too easy for them to get around if none the less though.

BTW we are all way to agreeable we need to find something we can argue about !!

Haha yeah really, I guess I thought I'd be riling someone up. I sort of expected someone to be all "those sex offenders deserved what they got!"

As long as we stay away from politics and religion then we'll have nice debates on things

Problem is we all agree on gaming news and such so we don't have debates. I think I just have to start a thread called " ALL VIDEO GAMES SUCK!!" and see where that takes us.

But then again I don't want to be kicked off the site .

Honestly, I'd rather have a pedophile fantasizing or playing online with a kid rather than play board games or 360 locally with them in real life.
