I am 24 years old and ever since I started gaming I never really had respect for the devs or anyone for that matter till I heard Cliff Bleszinski talk about the gaming industry in a interview and on a GDC in front of devs. Ever since then gamers get upset over the stupidest things now. The Mass Effect 3 ending fiasco was probably the biggest one yet. I really don't get why gamers don't take the time to look at a game, research the game company, go on the company's forums or twitter accounts and talk to these devs. They are just normal people like us who work in an industry where you gotta move from one place to another and get laid off if the company doesn't make enough money to stay a float.

It really makes me sad when gamers just spit in there face for the hard work they've put into a game.

my grammar might be a little off. I sucked in school lol.

I you guys have respect for some games and devs out there but really wanna discuss about how the rest of the gamers out there have no respect anymore

I think you're absolutely right; gamers have SUCH a sense of entitlement today. They don't ever seem to take into account all the hard work that goes into creating a game.

On the other hand, however, they are still consumers. They paid for a product, and as such have a right to judge it based on quality.

With all that said, the ME3 thing was just ridiculous. I don't think gamers had any right to demand a new ending like they did. Don't like the game's ending? Go play something else.

I think the Mass Effect 3 issue was a joke. There's been a ton of games with poor endings. Hell, there are movies made with even worse endings. No one is revolting about those, or raising hell. If something sucks, move on. I think there's a lot of other options people could be uprising about, besides an ending to a game. What about real world issues. Just goes to show where peoples heads are in today's society. The future is going to be rough. Games used to be for entertainment; now it's reality for a lot.

I don't think the devs get the appreciation they deserve for the effort into making games. From what I've always heard from them; it's long hours, tons of overtime, and a lot of stress to meet deadlines. Especially when a publisher is pushing the company. Though with any company, if the company is getting heat so do the employees. If people truly hate a company, they probably hate the workers even though they don't know them. Just the way today works.

The generations coming up, seem to be very emotional, and pushes social media to a new level.

If you're ever at a convention or follow a game with a twitter account or dev for that matter. Say they did a great job and how great the game is. They love stuff like that. It's always good to keep there sprites up so they work even harder when they get back to the office for those long hours.

The one thing I will say, though, is that it's a fan-fucking-tastic time to be working in games journalism. Gamers are so ready to crucify devs and publishers (coughcoughWorstCompanyInAmerica), but game journalists? We're only human.

We're allowed to mess up sometimes. Sure, we'll make some enemies out of this, but readers are generally more forgiving with us than they are with game developers.

Gametrailers Reviews - They hate PS3 for some reason. The community over there hates GT so much.

IGN Reviews - They all hate the reviewers it's insane.

If I had my own youtube channel I would NEVER rate a game. Just give my opinions on what needs to be fixed, what was good, what needs to be better. Then let gamers know if they should get the game or not. If you rate a game people are gonna have a shit storm.

Plus I like to look at it like. Good game, bad game. No score for each

It seems that even if there is NOTHING to complain about people will STILL find something to raise hell about. Cept in my experience with Red Stone its been more people complaining about the publisher when the real heat should have been aimed at the developer. People still continue, even thru some of the best customer service and updates we have ever had there, to flame OGPlanet for every little thing. Ive been on both sides of the coin. Ive helped with more than my share of events and they just dont seem to understand all the work that goes into this stuff. They rant that the GMs must be sitting on thier hands all day when actually they are working thier butts off to meet deadlines, come up with new ideas and hammer out all the bugs/issues.

That was a bit off topic. But thats what this reminded me of. I blame it on the fact that people can easily hide behind thier keyboards and say whatever they want with no fear of consequences for thier flame and rage.

More on topic i can see it happening with Diablo 3. In reading any of the forums around the game there is so much complaining about the stupidest stuff. It would be different if they didnt always put it in to wording that sounded like a 5 year old screaming that they didnt get to go outside and play that day, but they always act like its the end of the world . The game was too short, the cutscenes were too long, the game is too hard, ect ect. As Jess said, if you dont like it GO PLAY SOMETHING ELSE AND STOP YOUR CRYING!!

lol is it kinda hypocritical to complain that people complain tho? haha. But yeah they really do piss me off that nothing is ever good enough for them. Developers/publishing companies bend over backwards to try to make the people happy and all they get for it is the masses raging about every little thing.

I guess it makes that one person who  actually has something good to say stand out in the crowd. Makes it mean more. Or is it the opposite, in a pool of black you dont even see the one white or its been smudged with all the black its more of a dark grey....

This is true, and also true for most anything in this world. The human race complains a lot. There will always be people out there who will complain or nick pick at every little thing. If an intelligent alien race did arrive here on Earth, they would probably see us as little whiny kids and obliterate us and our roid.

on the flip side, if noone complains, nothing gets done, and progress stalls.  Unfortunately on the large scale asking nicely just doesnt do much good, so you people need some way to express their thoughts on the game.  Now Im not saying the ways and methods of the complaints are justified, but I do think they are what push us forward.

    Yes and no.

Its not that they complain about ligitmate issues, its that they complain about EVERYTHING. Some of the most absolutely stupid and silly things to complain about. They dont stop. Even when everything is damn near perfect they STILL have something to rant about. And not in a matter of litigimately bringing up a concern no, in the manner of screaming like infants that "ITS NOT FAIR!!" "FIX IT NOW!!!" "OMG I CANT BELIEVE..."

If it were actual complaints about ligitmate issues, the intention good but the execution was poor then sure i would agree. But the complaints people have are just stupid, useless and inconsiderate of the people who have put so much work into the game. People need to learn to choose thier battles more wisely. Complain about what matters and not every little thing they can come up with along the way.

It comes down to people being spoiled. I'm not referring to money, but technology. This whole social media craze, people are using to peer pressure people and companies. Because of that, people now complain about every little thing because it instantly gets noticed with outlets like Facebook and Twitter. The Mass Effect 3 incident is a perfect example. You know how many movies or games had awful endings in the past? To many to count or even keep up with. However without those outlets, people would make a simple decision to continue to watch future movies/play future games by that director or developer or not to. Now, people just rage out via social networks to the world, and become a virtual lynch mob.

Constructive feedback is good. Complaining and whining is not.

I agree with what your saying blood. Another reason why i have a firey passionate hatred for social networking places like facebook. I refuse to ever be a part of it.

I think it also comes down to tho (and i just saw a youtube video on this last night) people becomming soft. In my grandparents generation they were taught things like table manners, they were taught respect and a good work ethic. They called eachother maam and sir. They had to always respect thier elders. They knew that they had better be good or thier parents would pull out the belt on them.

My mothers generation was a bit less. Not so much on the sirs and maams, but still some table manners and definitely a sense of respect.

My generation my mother may not have been the best mother in the world but she taught me good solid lessons about how to do finances, keep track of my belongings. I could talk back to her without getting smacked but that doesnt mean i wasnt spanked when i was younger. I was not allowed to throw temper tantrums or run around like a freak in public. I was punished when i acted out.

And then there is the new generation... I have to admit im very sad to see... kids running around mouthing off to whoever they choose, bashing and trolling other people. There is no such thing as respect anymore. They have no respect for elders, they have no respect for authority. They scream and yell and throw temper tantrums in the grocery store and mom is yapping away on her cell phone oblivious. The more children are not taught early on a sense of respect and appreciation for what they have the more it will come out in other areas.

I decided long ago that i would never have children. This is one of the main reasons why. No matter how much i tried to teach them the important things in life. The outside influence of kids with mothers who dont care enough to teach them anything would just get in the way. I would end up with a little brat of a child like so many children out there. And im sorry but if a kid is acting up, pain is natures way of getting your attention you should be allowed to smack it. These days smacking your kid is a fast track to getting yourself thrown in jail for child abuse... As i said. People have gone soft.

I think that the me3 ending fiasco was kind of ridiculous, but it is also important that the company makes a good ending for the game. A games ending is as important as the prologue. In my opinion, the ending could gave been better, but people shouldn't have demanded for a new one.
