The Counter Strike series may be my favorite series in gaming history, along with my most played.
And with the Beta of CS:GO out my hours are racking up even more. I'm guessing most of you have at least heard of the counter strike games. Mainly for their highly competitive tournaments and from the game being on Steam.

The beta of course has it's flaws right now, but valve and hidden path seem to be responding quickly to user feedback and tweaking the game to fix bugs, or other minor issues.
The biggest improvement is with the new game modes. They have released two modes that are more quick paced compared to the competitive play that is also available. This was a great move to gain more of the casual players. To me CS:S always seemed to have a high skill level, and I could only play the game when I was in the mood to either take a brutal beating, or dish it out myself.

So is anyone else in the Beta yet? It seems to be a bit more closed than Dota 2, but I'm seeing a lot of new players recently.

Kind of a long delay but you should hit me up sometime and play. I'm usually on competitive mode.

Also big news released a few days ago from Valve that the game has an Official release date of August 21st and will be around $15, which sounds like the perfect price for a game like this. (maybe the price will attract more people too! =])

proph - pretty sure bf3 doesn't really have perks or killstreaks.  Just don't play COD man.

I won't be playing this though, I've never really enjoyed any CS and Im not really excited about this one. Im not all about the map memorization, quick scoping, and hardcore competition... I just enjoy shooting people.  But more power to you, I respect it alot and the people who play CS, i'd just rather play something more arcadey

I'm a competitive gamer, always have and always will be. However I have never liked Counterstrike, and mostly for the same reasons. I don't find much enjoyment in it. Always seemed to watered down and simplified. Back in the day when Battlefield 1942 and Counterstrike were at their strong points, the community that followed and played 1942 I always found to be more mature gamers, where Counterstrike seemed to always be flooded with disrespectful players, tons of younger gamers (which didn't help the first one, disrespect), and people who took the game beyond to serious.

I used to go to a lot of gaming lounges back then (we're talking 5-7 years ago), and you would have the Battlefield gamers enjoying the game, laughing, goofing off, having fun, and then you would have the loud ass Counterstrike gamers talking trash across the room, yelling, and vulgar language.

So because of all that, I don't bother with Counterstrike.

Lucig3n and bloodbath you both make some good points. I've found a lot of friends from playing this game so long, but also with those people come the millions of asshats on the servers. To me the simplicity of the game and memorization of everything just makes it enjoyable and thats what I'm about. To me games such as BF3 or COD have too much going on for me, and is made for team play. But with very few close friends who actually play those types of games I stick with CS so I can hop on by myself show my skill, talk a bit of shit to other players if needed and have a fun night.

Prophecy, tell me how it is once it comes out for the console! I've always been curious how it would do with a controller rather than a mouse and keyboard.

As far as competitive games go this is the only FPS series besides Quake that I can even consider actually competitive. Also pubs are pubs regardless of the game, they're all full of vulgar talk and trash talking immature dinks. I think the thing that helps Battlefield though is that it doesn't have built in VOIP even though it should.
