I'm looking for a good headset that works for both the PC and the Xbox 360. I bought this Turtle Beach one, the X32 I think, but it doesn't work for the PC (or maybe it needs a special adapter). But what do you guys recommend I get? I'd like to stay around or below the $100 range. |
below $100 is pretty hard to achieve... i use an astros mixamp which can be paired with basically any pc headset to make it xbox/pc compatible and the mixamp is really worth it but alone that thing is like $100+. I think companies like turtle beach are the only ones maing xbox/pc headsets cheap, but personally I dont like them. You might have to invest a bit more into a good headset |
There's quite a few under $100.00, and also at some point your simply paying out the ass for the name. Support to Steelseries - http://steelseries.com/products/consoles/steelseries-spectrum-5xb#header |
Just build your own converter for like $10, youtube it. |
I got a plantronics off Walmart.com 55$, grey and red, only for PC though haha. I know debs has a sick team razer headset that lights up, I dont know if it does xbox360 also however. |
So what you need to do is get a headphone amp that takes multiple inputs then you can use any regular headset on any system. This is the one my friend uses, he plays pro COD4 on PC but the money in COD has moved over to console. http://www.astrogaming.com/mixamps/mixamp-usb You could probably find them for cheaper. |

I have a set of TB Earforce X12's and they work quite well. It comes with all the necessary connections for the Xbox 360, and can strip down to a simple USB, and two 3.5mm plugs (mic and speakers) for your PC. It has neat controls for voice and game audio, then a bass boost I think. It is wired obviously, but I don't mind that. Also, just make sure your TV has red and white component audio out jacks. http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/xbox-gaming-headsets/ear-force-x12.aspx As for a wireless solution, I primarily use my TB Earforce X31's for my Xbox since the controller is also wireless. It doesn't really come "PC ready" but with some cheap adapters it is possible. http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/xbox-gaming-headsets/ear-force-x32.aspx (newer version I believe) I love them both but the X12's seem to suit me much better for PC. Good luck! |
Thanks for the help. I'm trying to pick which one looks the coolest now, because looks are quite important you know. |
Lol Choops has the low-down on audio! And yeah, the headset that Devin mentioned are the Razer Starcraft 2 Banshees - PC only unfortunately. I've been looking for a mixamp solution myself since I managed to end up with 3 PC headsets and only one PC - if I can build my own (thanks Kyle) then that would be sweet! :D Don't forget to let us know what you end up getting, Kirk! I'm sure we're all dying to know now! (At least, I'm curious!) |
I need some time to go try them on, I want some super comfortable ones. |
honestly im liking those g930s that i brought in to work the other day. the wireless is also nice since its no clutter but i dont believe theyre xbox compatible |
Steelseries makes some damn comfy headsets. Do make sure to try those.
Yep. I have two 930's, and they are beasts. |
Went to GameStop to get some Steam Gift Cards and the guy said to get some Triton's. Said anything above a 700 series should work for PC and Xbox. Anyone tried them? |
Tritton. |
I'm thinking he meant these: http://www.trittonusa.com/prod/AX720.asp But it says compatible with PC and Mac in Europe? |
Personally, I've had some bad experiences with Tritton. Few years ago I purchased the AX51 (it's since been deactivated), and the sound quality was poor as hell. It also was very quiet. One of my complaints I sent them, was that you could max the headset volume and your system, and still barely hear much; plus zero bass (games were boring because of this). Replacement at the time, had the same problem so it was just the headset. After that, I haven't bothered with Tritton. I think at the time, it was a $150 headset. Madcatz is OK, but they have been known to make some cheap hardware as well. The newer Tritton headsets might be different, but I figure there's plenty of other companies who I haven't had these problems with, on a pricy headset. |
yea i've done alot of research on headsets (although I haven't bought a whole lot of them). Tritton seems to comparatively have the worst sound quality for the price. As bloodbath pointed out they are from Madcatz which historically is a cheap alternative to whatever everyone else uses. At that point though you might grab the astro a30s without the mixamp which should work (you might need some adapters but anything with an analog jack (i.e. not usb) will work with both, you'll just need some converty stuff and you can built that if you want. You won't get surround sound but you will get stereo!) I've heard a lot about steelseries but have never tried them but for the cheap easy solution... choopa has got it on lockdown. I dont necessairly like turtlebeach but they have organized their website really well so you can easily see whats compatible with what: http://www.turtlebeach.com/products.aspx |
I think i'm gonna go with the DX-12 from Turtle Beach. thoughts? |
Nevermind, I went to Best Buy at lunch and the thing has too many wires and cables and connections, fuck it. |
lolwut? multiple wires and cables and connections are exactly what you want! that gives you surround sound, and with the processor you get virtual surround sound for stereo sources (something I like, although I have not used that particular device). Also the cables are all there to give you options, they dont all need to be plugged in at once, but it can handle a variety of inputs which is the kind of thing you want. Im confused now as to what you are trying to get lol |
You can't get a headset that works for both PC and a console without multiple connections. Really though your best bet is just getting a mix amp like device like the one I linked. The sound quality doesn't diminish at all and you can use any headphones and mic you want. I don't think I've actually bought a headset (headphones with built in mic) for years because to be honest they all sound bad, and have crap mics anyways. For gaming I tend to just use my Audiotechnica ATH-700s and a clip on mic, that setup has proven to be a million times better than any headset I've ever bought and cost me way less. |
lol, nice. Well once you go wireless, it is hard to go back to wired. |
Yeah sorry I guess I was hoping for some magical pair of headphones that just worked perfectly for xbox and pc with no mix-amps and extra cables and boxes and shit. I guess we're probably a few years away from that. I'll look in to that mix amp that was mentioned as I already have a really nice pair of headphones I used for digital audio production. |
I've been looking for a good wireless headset but I'm worried about batteries/recharging. Obviously, if the headset uses AA batteries, that's a deal breaker. Any good headsets with good battery life? I'd be nice if I could wear it all day and just recharge it at night. |
Kyle, consider getting the Logitech G930. Built in battery, lasts about 8 to 10 hours on a fresh charge. Can charge while using it as well. Range is very excellent. Anywhere in the house, and still holds strong. Has 7.1 surround sound. |
wow 7.1 wireless for 100? dang man thats got even me reconsidering! this warrants extra research! |
It's an excellent deal no doubt. I have two of them. A second one I've had for about 1 Year 2 Months finally stopped taking a charge though last month.. however they did issue me a new replacement immediately, even though it was outside the warranty. So kudos to them. |
Ya I took a long look at it while it was $90 on Newegg and Amazon, but I just dished out some money for a new IPS monitor and I always feel weird spending too much at one time. Really tempting though... |
So I ended up getting the Logitech G930. It's pretty bad-ass. Case closed! |
