    Guys and gals,

I'm thinking about ways we can get some more people to the forums.  More people equals better conversations and more friends!  So what can we do the entice people to join us here?

I know we have this whole Karma thing.  But we need some cool items to give out.  What would you want to get?

    Game cards?
    T-shirts? (still designing those)
    Shot glasses?

    I dunno, you tell me!

Machetes, pistols, machine guns, bazookas, case of grenades, ammunition for the end of the world. What we got like 6 months left. In all honestly though, posting up goodies won't drive people to the forum. I think you all need to budget some funds into marketing, and campaigns that might get other organizations to post and talk about as well. Everything internal won't help much.

Right bloodbath, I guess what I was thinking with internal stuff was that people already here might reach out to their friends.

Ever think of offering a nice prize to a spotlight forum member of the month? Like a pair of Gunnars, a headset or other hardware, a full-game key... even a hoodie? It will encourage more participation among people who are signed up but don't write much (*cough* >_> ), and the allure of being awarded for simply being an active member may draw in more people.

On top of that, things like stickers, lanyards, tshirts or trucker caps, mousepads, mugs (tumblers or water bottles work well too). Also, think of anything else you may have on your desk while gaming and whether it's logo-able or not. That's good merch.

Personally I want posters... I want posters for games. It can be a bitch to get some. A lot of them are sent out exclusively to websites and given out at conventions as swag and never released for sale to the public. If you can give away game posters I'd post all the damn time.

I do web and graphic design, but lately I've been to busy to take on additional projects. I'd recommend to get something done, post a paid gig for a design on the deviantart forums. I've found a few awesome designers that way, who I hire all the time now for art projects.

it really depends on your budget kirk... start small then maybe consider giving out more stuff. shirts would be expensive to print off and to ship out different places, maybe consider one off items.

stickers are a good idea, I saw them in the last circlekirk and I'd love to be able to put some up :P I think itd be cool to be able to get exclusive game deals, like beta keys, or in game money. You know, like how they have for special offers? maybe we could have something where having a certain amount of karma gets different deals? Or maybe it could be spent like money to get special deals :O

The in game money idea is really cool Brennan. I think a lot of people would go for that. There is the controversy over the morality of currency-buyers and sellers though. I've never had a problem with it although I can see how too much of it can poorly influence game economies. Still, I think people would be more willing to accept currency of any kind as a gift, regardless of it's source.

Giant box? what?? is this, like, super secret employee only stuff? :OOO and, I dunno, I just think that its really cool when kirk gave out the beta keys for smite, and I've always thought there should be more ways to get cool stuff in games than spending actual money, so maybe being a positive part of the community here is a good way to earn it?

    That box is too valuable!

Brennan, We do have some new beta keys going on right now, we put them up in the last week without much fanfare.  I guess I should post them in the forums so people can at least see them.  I haven't played these games yet, but maybe they are cool.

T-shirts are a great idea, and the posters idea is also a goder :P Although I cannot log into the main site and coment which for some reason that no one can figure out . Other ideas like steam giveaways and beta keys are a great idea as well.

Like some others have said the marketing is a huge thing. If you only post it on your FB and Twitter, most of those who follow the site closely are already contributing members to the forums. You need to find a way to reach larger audiencies who have never heard about the site. With massive sites like IGN and Massively its hard to get people to come to your site daily for their gaming news. So reach out! run an add compain all over the interwebs, especially places your audience will frequent, for instance, Reddit or Youtube.

Back to the idea of giveaways, make them interactive. Say you can win a t-shirt by siging up and posting to the forums, or inputting to the MMO Opinion videos. Make people get involved and then reward them for their involvment. Those are just my thoughts.

I think the biggest hurdle this site faces is the fact that there are so many other sites that fit the same niche with both MMOBomb and MMOHut having massive fanbases.  We need to think of ways in which we can differentiate ourselves enough to draw attention away from the major F2P portal sites and onto ours in addition to drawing in new fans.

Personally, I think the site for MMOHut is pretty bad.  Beyond being a directory for F2P games, it offers next to nothing, and the forum community specifically for MMOHut isn't much larger than our community.  It's popularity is due to its youtube channel which has also seen a massive drop in quality since OnRPG took over.  I don't even subscribe anymore.

MMOBomb has a pretty active community.  It's also a good directory for games, but they also produce a ton of content for their youtube channel and involve the community in a lot of their productions.  I would also imagine Spunkify's transition to MMOBomb also brought them a great deal of free advertisement.

What I like about MMOAttack is how community-oriented we are.  We also have a core of quality writers who are constantly pumping out quality opinion pieces that are genuinely interesting to read, and a lot of our exclusive youtube shows are pretty unique (CircleKirk, MMOppinion, Weekly Loot, A Look At...).  I don't think our problem is a lack of quality content.  Rather, we just need to give people a reason to give us a look.  I've advocated this before, but again, let me reiterate that I think it would be a good idea for us to look into booking another youtube personality to join us on a podcast.

We don't need to go after anyone with 100s of thousands of subscribers, but we can target youtube personalities with 50,000 or less subscribers to join us on one of our podcasts.  You may wonder why someone on another youtube channel would be interested in joining our show.  Well, the precedent has been set.  Last summer, MikeB appeared on an episode MMOBomb's weekly podcast.  You could argue that MikeB's appearance was mutually beneficial as I'm pretty sure MMOBomb had more subscribers than MikeB at the time, but nevertheless, it's worth a shot.  All they can do is say no.

Also, I would totally wear a shirt around campus if we had one :P

I totally agree with shirts and stuff.

I've got two comments on the site that I think could be improved on:

    1. Is there any way to get some sort of notification system for the site? I think there's really good potential for back and forth conversation (mostly with the Opinion questions) and it would really help build a more community feel if people could better keep up with new comments on articles or more importantly responses to their own comments. Basically it'd be nice to keep people in the loop after they've read an article and left their comment. I sometimes pass up leaving a reply to a comment because I'm like, "eh, they're not gonna see it anyway".

    2. I think there are a lot of things done right with the site, but for a F2P gaming website, I think the "games" side of it is one of its weaker aspects... First of all, when searching for a game, the article with the link to the game should be the first thing that pops up. I did a search for League of Legends and the article with the actual game link was on page three (literally the last item). When a game is searched for, it should come up first or separately under a "games" category and then everything else under a "related articles" heading or something. Second, just for browsing games, we need more genres or categories to help narrow down a preference. As it is now, there's only 5 different categories listed at the top of the main page and 15 different categories way down at the bottom (who even looks there?). If you go to a site like mmobomb, they have almost 30 different categories/genres listed right at the top under drop down tabs. Recently we added a drop down box for the site videos, why not do the same thing for games and just load it with as many popular categories as possible? Anything to make it easier for someone just browsing with a specific interest.

Anywho, those are just my thoughts. I really don't know the logistics of putting any of this into action or if they're even worth the time, but I figured it was worth a mention. Just wanna see Attack become the best site it can be!
