Title pretty much says it all. Looking for a good MMORPG to play right now. Don't say like WoW or anything like that. Not smite either, I'm playing that later. Looking for one with a good party system, and a good combat style.

hard to say, dunno what you like.  I played  a pserver a bit of Rift (was rift at one point a monthly cost thing?) but that was an interesting game, rifts are a cool dynamic, if a bit annoying.  I saw cabal is on its 6th anniversary.  Pretty solid for an MMO although I've never played it so I can't suggest it personally.  Im not sure if anyone plays guildwars1 anymore with GW2 on the near horizon, but that was a great game.  I also understand my old MMO, dekaron (aka 2moons), has received a big update, but unless GameHi has done something to the game management, I wouldn't suggest it (I did enjoy the fast paced gameplay though.  It was also possible to do real well without spending money).  If you want something completely different, I need a friend on World Of Tanks, but thats not even close to a traditional MMO like I think you are shooting for.  And if you are real adventurous, download that Redstone the LLunatic has been posting about.  Game has to have some merit if someone can be that into it (no offense LLunatic :P ).

If you want better suggestions, let me know what you are into.  Not just "good" combat style, do you like it fast & furious? slower? only martial arts? also whats a good party system? D3 party system? What would probably be easiest is if you give us an idea of what your coming from and what you liked from the respective game(s)

Also im not the local MMO expert, so maybe someone else has something more helpful to say, but I would say you need to be a bit more specific about what you are looking for :)

You might like Tera, it has the best combat system easily of all the MMORPGs out right now, also look into RaiderZ. The only issue you may have with Tera is that it is a localization of a Korean MMO, and like Korean MMOs it has a ton of grinding. How ever the combat is so good it makes up for it.

TERA isn't free either right?  I know I've only ever looked at f2p games (and guildwars) because thats just my style, but I've heard alot of good about that game.  I think I have a free month trial too if you want it.

Play All Points Bulletin. The best character customization in the industry, and fast combat with driving included, GTA style.

If you are familiar with Vindictus' beat em up gameplay, C9 provides that similar style with better character customization.

So you're saying you want a fast-paced, action-oriented MMO with excellent customization? Well then sir, let's take a look at my stupidly vast gaming library...

    ...No...Nope...I got nothing. Sorry man.

But if you want adequate character customization from the get-go, we can suggest a few things. Vindictus has died out, so it's a no-go at this point. Continent of the Ninth Seal is almost the same kind of combat, minus throwing weapons, grappling hooks, and that sort of thing. The customization at the beginning is alright, but you'll be able to purchase permanent armors and character details from the store when and if you feel like it. The problem with C9 is it has a stamina limit. Now you think "Oh god, it's like Spiral Knights and it's energy system!" It's not that bad. You can play for hours upon hours in the same day on C9
I think me and my friend would be on about 6 or 7 hours before we would hit booster stamina. The game has massive skill customization as well. Every player is more than likely going to be built differently. However, the biggest downside to this game is the lack of difficulty from most, if not all monster up to around level 30. (3/5 of the game!) I haven't got much further than that either. The lack of challenge bothers me.

Next up is Dragon Nest. Yet another game that features another form of the energy system, each character has their own amount of energy and can go through instanced dungeons with each other. Character customization is at a minimum, but the combat is rather impressive. I don't exactly remember how difficult the game is, but I know it's a little more challenging than C9 is. Four classes that can later advance to higher tier, more specialized classes also make going through stages pretty interesting. The spell casters have a good bit of crowd control as well. (You kind of need it for the massive amount of mobs you fight on occasion...)

RaiderZ. Just thinking of it makes me go into a fanatical, rabies-infested frenzy. The game is fun, the combat is impressive, and the raw amount of danger you have when fighting an individual or group of targets is inexplicably fun. You feel like you're actually trying to survive instead of just "Oh look, more enemies."
With that being said, I was 4 levels above an enemy. Just one at that, and he still managed to knock me down to half health. I was cocky and thought I didn't have to dodge his attacks. Wrooooong. Not to mention, even some of the earliest monsters (Actually, the very first) can pick you up and slam you into the ground. The Boss Monsters are insanely innovative and if you get lucky, you can knock parts off of the monsters to either upgrade equipment or use as a temporary weapon. It's in closed Beta at the moment, but it's a good deal of fun and we do have keys on the site. The downside is the US servers are currently being limited on what times the servers are up.

I know I haven't suggested much at the moment, but I haven't slept for 4 days so far and my mind is a bit hazy. Sorry about that. I would give you more, but at the moment I can't think of anymore action-oriented MMOs.

EDIT: Tera Online has a sort of Phantasy Star Online feel to it. They've also recently reduced their monthly fee from $15/month to $10/month. If you've ever played Phantasy Star Online, you understand how nostalgic it feels to play that game. If not, then I pity you. One of the greatest games that ever came out, and with PSO2 supposedly coming out in January of next year, I'm seriously looking forward to it. The biggest problem I have with Tera Online isn't how it looks, or how it plays, or even the races with it. My biggest problem with Tera is that once you select a weapon-class for your character, you are STUCK with it. And that completely slams me out of my PSO daydreams and nostalgia-fests with the game. See, Tera online in and of itself is great. But if you were allowed to just pick up any weapon you wanted and go, you'd probably have a bit more fun. Now I'm not saying it's not a fun game. It is. It's just my own personal gripe that something that has the feel of a game from 2000 (that is still something I play regularly!) can't have the one feature from the older game bothers me just a little. But that's just it. It's a little. But still, I'd rather play PSO (zzz).

I'm really excited for Guild Wars 2. I Had a blast every time they ran a beta event and would find myself smiling at some points. It's been a while that I have been really enthusiastic about a game. I'll be playing on Sea of Sorrows if you decide to pick it up, pre-purchase head start is really soon so you might want to check that out.
