I would love to start a thread that's any and all things pokemon. I am willing to discuss anything related to pokemon.

But for now I guess I will pose a question:
What pokemon would you want as a companion if they were the only species of pokemon to exist in real life?

I don't even know my answer yet, but in the modern world all electric pokemon have an obvious plus if you can utilize their energy to power things. Screw you zombie apocalypse!

Hmm, great question.  I honestly haven't played a Pokemon game in years.  Actually the only one's I ever played were Red and Blue!  I think I may have caught 146 or so.

I will always have a love for Charmander because he was the first and most favorite Pokemon of mine.  But when you bring in utilizing their powers for your own benefit that brings in a whole new aspect.  I would probably go some sort of flying pokemon, so I could get around easily!

I started with fire pokemon every generation until the most recent. So I am nostalgically always going to be in love with charmander too. In fact Charizard can learn how to fly so looks like you might be covered there!

The original Red/Blue is awesome. I caught all 150 through trading classmates and hard work back in 5th grade. *SPOILERS* All you get is a stupid diploma from some guy. I wont lie though, I felt very special and still do. ><

I found my old gameboy a few months back and Pokemon Red was still in it, logged in and still had all my old stuff, pretty crazy!

All kidding aside though people play the games they enjoy so Bloodbath it's cool if your not into pokemon. Now I am curious though into finding out what games you played instead? I love hearing about games that bring nostalgia to people so maybe the thread can even turn into that, or just start another one when this dies out.

But yea then my question for everyone and not just bloodbath: was there a handheld game you carried around everywhere as a kid? Or one that you a good amount of your childhood on?

There aren't really any handheld games that stand out to me as being nostalgic, however console games is a different story. Mine kinda goes like Contra, Zelda, Metroid, Final Fantasy, River City Ransom, Mortal Kombat, F-Zero, some others I can't remember; then when Playstation came out I was basically always playing Twisted Metal, FF7, Resident Evils, Jet Moto. few others. Then in my early teens moved more onto the pc and was into Age of Empires, Battlefield 1942, DAOC, and just kinda goes on from there. Xbox kinda came out around that time as well, so I spent ungodly amounts of time on Halo as well.

Never been a fan of anything anime. Not my style.

oooh, Battlefield 1942 was legit.  I believe that's the first game I played at a LAN party.  I think that's the game that got me addicted to FPS games, as before that I was into either sports games or, yeah mostly sports games.

I used to have a Pokemon site back in 5th grade. It was legit.

I recently re-discovered the games and played through Emerald and Black (I think). It's so stupidly addicting.

As far as what Pokemon I'd want as a companion...flying would be cool, but a bird would be kind of lame besides that. I think I'd go with Dragonite, I mean, who doesn't want a pet dragon? It can fly and can learn fire, electric, ice, and water attacks.

Yeah when 1942 came out, it was basically all I played for the longest time. I think I'm the same, first game I really played at a LAN. I also used to go to a lot of gaming centers back then and cafes, and game with others via LAN.

I didn't know LAN existed until halo came out. I didn't even know how to
utilize it until buying my own xbox years after playing halo already.
In fact I was skilled at Halo before owning the system. I miss sitting
around a room with a bunch of people though. Something about the
experience is just more fun than xbox live...   oh that's right it's
probably the fact that when people scream bloody murder at LAN parties
they either do it together or get punched.

Bloodbath -  Contra is the best thing ever. Replay value never goes away.     Because back in the day Nintendo didn't care that they were making you play a game 1000 times! Nowadays there's little difference between lives and continues.

ya Xbox Live can be pretty irritating. I hope the whole server rental thing from Battlefield doesn't catch on with other games. You kill the server owner and you'll get banned 25% of the time.

Which is the reason I don't even bother playing BF on a console. It's meant to be played on the PC, more mature audience.

Im going to just stick to the OP.

I loved pokemon, played red blue and yellow a ton but never felt like continuing with it past there.  Got all 151 and lvled my team manually to 100 w/o dem rare candies.  Awesome times, played thru it again a couple years ago while I was working (its kind of complicated lol).  My favorite was always articuno, but I dont think it would be the most awesome to have around.  Dragonite would be awesome, or an alakazam... or actually.  Since I love the water, maybe a gyrados would suit me best :P  That would be a fun way 2 travel lol

bloodbath - "Which is the reason I don't even bother playing BF on a console. It's meant to be played on the PC, more mature audience."
Very true. And the vehicle control was clearly meant for the PC so that game I would specifically stay away from a console version. IMO

Kyle - "I used to have a Pokemon site back in 5th grade. It was legit."
I didn't see this the other day, get the hell out? What kind of site? I had an angelfire website where I ran a Dragon Ball Z online RPG, using D20s on my computer desk. I totally ripped the idea off my friend who did it first, I was more dedicated though so it was better lol (i also let myself lose to people unlike him the bastard haha)

lucig3n - "Got all 151" "Since I love the water" "Dragonite, Alakazam, Gyrados"
Everyone lovin' on Dragonite huh? I didn't know about the mew easter egg when I was younger so only got 150 legit. I'll never forget that it took forever to catch a Tauros for 149. I was the only kid in my class who had one and traded it away immediately to the only kid to have a Kangaskhan at the time, which was my last one. I love water pokemon too, Dark is a close second. But Alakazam is a cool choice. I always have problems with psychic pokemon in these discussion because I feel like they all win if they can use "psychic" abilities. I would pick Snorlax for anything though because he is my favorite, specially if he can learn the moves he can in the games. (Surf? Um yes please)

This is completely random, BUT it relates to Pokemon, so I thought I would post it.

It's like... if Tim Burton designed the Pokemon or the creators of Courage the Cowardly Dog. It's sweet!

lol i don't think I have the income to feed snorlax enough to keep him happy :P  Dragonite seems like a cool one to have in real life though because... well cripe its a flying dragon!  I am suprised noone has said charzard because thats a flying fire breathing dragon, but thats ok.  I actually want a big fan of dragonite in the game though, he was the last person i begrudgingly added to my group just because dragon types were so useful to have.  I dont remember having trouble with Kangaskhan at all, although Tauros was definitely annoying.  I remember having a ton of trouble with Scyther who was totally a favorite of mine... until I got him and was like... ehh thats ok.  My favorites playing the game were articuno and kadabra (i didnt evolve it until it was like 90 for some reason, and even then I just renamed it Kadabra cuz we were a team :P)  Still gyrados seems like the most awesome to me to actually have.  But lets be awesome, pretty much any of them would be awesome to have.. except beedrill.  I do not want a beedrill.

Racquel that was pretty cool. I can't put my finger on what it reminds me of.

lucig3n your kadabra story is great. Maybe you didn't evolve him till late because he needs to be traded to evolve. A lot of people had odd loves for unevolved pokemon though. In fact majority of fans I have met prefer Bulbasaur over the other two he evolves into. I personally like using Pikachu for a longer than I need to even though Raichu is bad ass. And for some reason I still love Haunter more than Gengar.

I stopped playing Pokemon after Silver/Gold but I've been planning on getting a DS to play the newer ones. I always liked Growlithe though

I stop originally after Silver/Gold also because I hit high school and such. Then picked up my brothers DS one day when I hit college. It was already 4th Generation (Pearl? I think) and still I immediately thrown back into nostalgic love. Later that year I bought my own DS and got Platinum, been hooked again ever since.

What's funny is that Gen 3 games (Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald) are majorly viewed as the weakest of all the games. Even though they are fun it was easily the best time you could stop deciding to play. Black and White 2 are coming out soon though! Going to be fun.

Growlithe is still one of my favorite pokemon though. I have been playing the Japanese release of the game a bit. Rest assured if you pick up the newest game coming out that 1) you can find a wild growlithe pretty early on and 2) that Arcanine is ridiculous in the games. Stats, moves, and aesthetic doggy appeal! #win

Pokemon Blue is the best game in the series. It was my first Pokemon game and the only one I actually finished. I tried Pokemon White for a bit but I couldn't finish it because it got too boring. I chose White because I heard the rare pokemon you catch will be Black and vice versa if you were to buy Pokemon Black. Never even got that far.

If you choose White Version you can catch the black Zekrom legendary, and in Black you catch the white Reshiram. So yea you're right if that's what you heard. It's not until the end of the game though.

I had Red version, my younger brother had Blue. Oddly though I tend to like water pokemon and have chosen the blue equivalent games going forward. I play all the 3rd versions though, they are always the best and most improved. Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, and hopefully now Black 2 and White 2.
