I haven't but I really want to... just so it feels complete. Lol  Mark you need to watch The Two Towers, at least.  Forget about the rest, you can just fill in the blanks lol

I saw it on release.  It wasn't as good as the LotR movies, but it was very good for what it was.

It is a bit slow in some parts.

Oh like the parts where they walk around for hours and hours and hours and hours and hours....

Or do they finally avoid that?

The first movie is over two hours long and is the first in a trilogy based off of a single book that doesn't exceed 400 pages in all but the tiniest of its various publications.

Having said that, what do you think?

I don't know what it was, but I really liked the movie  -- and thats saying something considering I've never been able to sit through the original trilogy. Yeah it dragged on a little bit in parts, but I didn't think the pace was nearly as bad as Fellowship's. Plus the scene between Bilbo and Gollum was fantastic!

Anyone else see it in 48 fps?

I thought the movie was very well done. I had not read the book, but I just found out that I had bought it three months ago and it was just laying around here, so I will be reading it. I also loved the scene with Bilbo and Gollum as well. That was the scene that I was anticipating the most, actually, and hoping that they would add it in the movie. I can't wait for the next two. Yes, I agree, they shouldn't have made it out into three movies, but, from what I saw of the movie, I think Peter Jackson and everyone did a good job, and hoping the next two will be just as good, if not better.

I've been reading through the book.  Don't crucify me, but I think the movie is better than the book.

The book reads like someone giving a summary of a more detailed story.  In fact, the first movie only covers about the first 90 or so pages of the novel.  If you're a fast reader, you could probably read through that area of the book in a shorter amount of time than it would take to watch the movie.

I think one of my favorite scenes was the one with the rock giants fighting each other. It was completely random and contributed nothing to the story, but they were just sooo cool!

Sometimes movies are just better. Its bound to happen occasionally. I still need to see this movie.
