Exciting news for fans of the upcoming zombie title as creator Dean Hall reveals more information in an interview with Gamasutra. The DayZ scene has been a little quiet of late following a few unforeseeable issues that forced a lengthy delay on the games release. The original DayZ mod for Arma II captured the hearts of millions when it was released and to this day continues to be one of the main reasons so many players pick up the simulation-heavy FPS title.
The core of the interview saw Hall discuss the payment model that Bohemia Interactive will utilize once the game enters closed beta. They will be adopting a similar payment method to the one used for Mojang's game giant, Minecraft. Players will be able to purchase the game at a discounted price during the early development stages, with the price increasing as the launch approaches. This gives players the perfect opportunity to snag a real bargain as I'd imagine most fans wouldn't feel sore forking out a full $60 for this highly anticipated standalone.
The alpha is currently under full swing but access is limited to those that have aided the development of DayZ:
"So what we're doing at the moment is, we gave free keys as a gift to the forum moderators, the Reddit moderators, people who helped out with DayZ development, and stuff like that,". "I guess there's about 30-100 people involved with that."
In the interview Dean also described a new approach to developing that will see the developers offer two live builds to players. One build, stable, will offer a stable version of the client with the recently released features. However, players can also choose to join experimental servers that feature everything in the game and what the developers are currently working on, in real-time. It's an experimental feature but Dean's hopes are high.
?We don't necessarily know how it's going to go. A lot of this is an experiment. But I think it's a cool experiment, and we're lucky that we can do that, because of the success of DayZ and the sales of Arma 2, it's kind of given us carte blanche to experiment. And we're going to make a lot of mistakes, and we do, but I think that's good. It's good for the title and it's good for us to d
With E3 rapidly approaching and the rumors of Sony's interest in DayZ, we could be seeing a really big name added to the PS4 launch titles. What are your thoughts?
