EA layoffs, September 2012

With a sugary coating called “Restructuring”, EA has confirmed there will be an unconfirmed number of layoffs throughout the whole company. These layoffs are in line with EA’s CEO John Riccitiello’s focus on the digital aspect of EA. The main goal being the switch to a larger focus on engineers, moving away from many press and community relations jobs.

The expected severances and other layoff related costs is approximately $23 million. Although EA’s corporate representative Jeff Brown was quoted saying to Joystiq, “Most importantly, EA is hiring and we expect to finish the year with more employees, not fewer.” The truth has yet to be seen, with many other companies growing their employee base we can only be left to wonder what state EA is in. Although reporting capital gains due to their digital sector may be John Riccitiello’s plan after all.
