Warner Bros & Arrowhead Studios Revive Gauntlet

Warner Bros. Entertainment and Arrowhead Studios today announced the upcoming revival of the dungeon crawling arcade classic, Gauntlet. The original Gauntlet title, developed by Atari Games and released in 1985, is widely considered to be one of the first multiplayer arcade dungeon crawling titles on the gaming scene. The title is being reworked and introduced to a whole new generation later this Summer on Steam and Steam Machines.

Outside of the official announcement trailer the developers included some basic information on the game. Sticking true to its fantasy roots Gauntlet will give players the opportunity to select from four traditional characters in the form of Wizard, Warrior, Elf and Valkyrie. The Wizard boasts the strongest magical abilities of the four classes, the Warrior provides the most damage in melee combat, the Valkyrie is the most viable tank and the Elf has the fastest movement and most effective crowd-control abilities.

Four classes with distinctive play styles, procedurally generated dungeons and a detailed art style promises to deliver a game that remains true to its arcade foundations while embracing the innovations seen in today’s dungeon crawling genre.
